Ballet Chancers - Episode 1

I just watched the first episode today via the RTE website. Not bad really... very watchable, but very watery at the same time though. Reality TV sucks bunions, you cant get over that fact, and the bullshit has been turned up a tad in it (I kept waiting for the narrator to come out with a line like "Monica has to make a life or death decision"), but its watchable anyway. Will it make any money for RTE? No. Will it generate interest in Loughman and/or ballet? Maybe, probably only a small amount in the short term. Does what I say matter? No.

Some technical aspects of the rip. The new RealPlayer is meant to have a download function for streaming media but it being a RealMedia product means that far from actually working it just sits back and sucks great big donkey balls. It kept crashing every time I ran it. So I went back to the old reliable, VirtualDub, and recorded the overlay of the video stream on the website. I had to then capture the sound separately. It whole thing took forever, because the stream from RTE kept going on the blink and I had to manually splice multiple captures back into one file.

Skanger Ballet

Rte started a new ballet flaoured show this evening, with Monica Loughman as host. The show's called "Ballet Chancers" and it had its first episode this evening. I didn't see it but I'm sure it was brutal. irish HipityHopity kids learning ballet... yeah cos Irelands got that whole Harlem thing down.

I swiped an article about the show in this weeks RTEGuide, and I hoovered few pics I hoovered up around the RTE website. I'll try and harvest the real media files of the episodess when theyre up.
