I wanted to do a bit of rotoscoping in Flash the other night (hey what can I say, I get the urges). I thought I'd try something different and try to convert the entire field of each frame in the video to a vector, so I googled about for the best way to do this. I found a Flash based solution. The natural thought would always have been to use Flash, but for reasons best known to Adobe, they never implemented a multiple bitmap tracing routine, so it would have been labor intensive to do an entire video.
Anyway,
Paranoid Blogger can tell you exactly how its done. It involves a Flash add-on and installing a Flash add-on manager.
About the animation anyway. It's of the great French Ballerina
Sylvie Guillem, and the original source video is taken from the start of her dance production "
Evidentia". The piece "Smoke - Wet Woman" is a fantastic highlight from it.
I reduced the resolution of the video drastically to keep the eventual file size down, as well as doing a very loose trace of each frame. I like the "boiling" effect the jaggies give off around the edges because of this.
